EARLY 91423, 91403, 91401 SHERMAN OAKS HOMES
I am not saying this is the oldest house that existed in what is today called Sherman Oaks. This is 5201 Fulton in Van Nuys before it was demolished a few years back. Records show 1912. I believe at one time I saw earlier. What distinguishes this property is it was not built by a rancher, farmer, or original developer. Also, I started focusing in on it by the late 70s because my mother claimed she went there and bobbed for apples as a child in the early 50s. The owner was said to be a very old woman. How significantly that thought contributed to my historic mapping of the East Valley I cannot say, but it was significant. More information on the oldest homes in 91423, 91403, and 91401 (the part now called Sherman Oaks) to follow.
Unfortunately, a demolition permit for this home was utilized in 2016
